Title: Chooser Limitations
Bulletin Date: 4/1/90 Revision 1.0
Category: Config Sub-Category: Server
S/W Product: v3.0 NWMAC H/W Product:
Version Affected: 3.0
Operating System: NW v3.11 Rev:
System and Hardware:
Application:
Symptom: Device names appear and disappear rapidly or don't appear at
all in the Chooser.
Problem: This is caused by a Chooser limitation on the number of
names that can be displayed. It occurs when too many
devices of the same type reside in the same zone -- it has
been observed with more than 15 device names of 12
characters average length. Information on device, zone,
and name limitations in the Chooser can be found on
AppleLink in the Apple Support/Technical Information Icons.
The search syntax under Technical Information is "Chooser
Names". The file name is "Chooser: Device, Zone, and Name
Limits".
Solution or
Workaround: Divide the AppleTalk network into zones containing fewer
services, or reduce the number of characters in some or all
of the device names. If the problem is related to multiple
print queues on one server (all of which must reside in the
zone of the server's internal network), reduce the number of
queues on that server or rename the queues with shorter
names.
